Ereader

Many have argued that eReaders would never become popular. But in the recent months more and more people are purchasing eReaders from the wide selection of models and brands offered by the manufacturers.

True, there is an unparalleled satisfaction in reading a book. Especially if it is a quality bound book and, even more, if it has some history with you.

The eReader, on the other hand, seems to be just another electronic gadget that will complicate our lives rather then simplify them. I myself have always been a book person and never wanted to read off my computer.

When you read a book, you are engulfed by the experience. If it is not the first time reading that book, you can always reminisce what it was like to read it for the first time. Remember your surprise on the turn of the plot. Notice the stains and creases you accidentally made on some pages. So, books are my passion. Electronic reading was not.

However, everything’s changed after this years holiday season when my parents got me an Amazon Kindle eReader as a gift. Obviously, I was not happy when I saw what was beneath the wrappings. Were they kidding me? They knew perfectly well that I was a book person!

When everyone went home, late in the evening, I convinced myself to examine my peculiar gift for a bit. Everything was new to me, but what was shocking is the quality of the screen.

The display of the eRreaders, the Kindle and others, uses eInk. This technology makes the page look as if it was real paper. There was absolutely no strain on my eyes, and I felt that I could almost convince myself that I was reading a real book.

After almost an hour of exploring I came to a conclusion that it was not as bad I thought it would be. Since I liked to travel and always carried around a few books with me, this could be a lifesaver.

Sure enough, reading my book at home is something I would never give up. But, having this eReader for traveling and commuting is a great bonus.

So, to answer the question whether one needs an eReader device or not, I think the answer is YES. I wouldn’t throw all my books away, but having an eReader in your bag could be a good idea if you like to read on the move.
